🥕 Classic Chakalaka Recipe

📝 Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 green bell pepper (chopped)
  • 2 carrots (grated)
  • 1 can baked beans (in tomato sauce)
  • 2 tomatoes (chopped) OR 1 cup canned tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp curry powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp chili flakes (adjust to taste)
  • Salt & black pepper (to taste)

  1. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add onion and sauté until soft (about 3–4 minutes).
  3. Stir in garlic and bell pepper, cook for 2 minutes.
  4. Add grated carrots and cook for another 3 minutes.
  5. Mix in tomatoes, tomato paste, curry powder, paprika, and chili flakes.
  6. Let it simmer for 10 minutes until thickened.
  7. Add baked beans and cook for 5 more minutes.
  8. Season with salt and pepper.
