For the cake:
- 4 large eggs, separated
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

- 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar

Instructions:
- Preparation: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 10×15-inch jelly roll pan and line it with parchment paper.
- Prepare the cake batter: In a mixing bowl, beat the egg yolks and granulated sugar until creamy. Add in the vanilla extract and mix well.
- Dry ingredients: Sift together the cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture into the egg yolk mixture and mix until well combined.
- Whip the egg whites: In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the batter until fully incorporated.
- Bake the cake: Spread the batter evenly onto the prepared jelly roll pan. Bake for about 12-15 minutes or until the cake springs back when lightly touched.
- Prepare the filling: While the cake is baking, whip the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Roll the cake: Once the cake is done baking, immediately loosen the edges and invert it onto a clean kitchen towel dusted with powdered sugar. Carefully remove the parchment paper.
- Rolling: Starting with a short end, roll the cake and towel together into a spiral. Let it cool completely while rolled in the towel.
- Fill and decorate: Carefully unroll the cake and spread the whipped cream filling evenly over the cake. Re-roll the cake without the towel. You can drizzle melted chocolate on top or sprinkle chocolate shavings for decoration.
- Chill and serve: Wrap the chocolate roll in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least an hour before serving. Dust with powdered sugar if desired before slicing and serving.
